Since commencing the Pilates Method in the late 1980’s with master teacher and mentor Rael Isacowitz, Sally trained and delivered Pilates specialist education extensively in all continents of the world for Rael’s Body Arts & Science program (BASI), before returning to Australia and establishing the Pilates International organization, including PilatesInt Studios and PilatesITC, Pilates International Training Centre.
Sally is an ongoing presenter for the global Pilates online platform Pilates Anytime, with a range of classes, tutorials and interviews available on the Pilates Anytime site. She has been featured in Pilates Style magazine on several occasions on a range of subjects.
Sally's Pilates International organisation set the benchmarks in the Australasian Pilates industry, through development and implementation of Pilates specialist vocational education as well as ongoing research, consultation, lobbying and negotiation of industry specific regulations and requirements. Since 2000 Sally has been at the forefront of implementing standards and establishing transparent structures for professional work practices that have created a foundation for recognition of the Pilates profession.
In 2013 Sally has led Pilates International into a prized collaboration with Canberra University, to articulate PilatesITC courses to higher education Bachelor degrees.
Pilates International was the first Pilates training organization to achieve government registration in May 2004, a process that began in January 2000. This included the development of the highest level qualifications available in Pilates world-wide, setting the benchmark for Pilates vocational training and education, and delivering the formal qualifications including the Advanced Diploma of the Pilates Method, the Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction, and the Certificate IV in Pilates Matwork Instruction. Pilates International licenses the use of these course curriculums to a number of private RTO’s and TAFE Colleges throughout Australia. These Pilates qualifications set the standard for the national profession providing greater recognition and regulation of the Pilates industry, and articulate to BA degrees in Health Sciences.
Sally has continued to travel extensively over recent years to deliver not only the formal qualifications, but also to deliver continuing education to Pilates professionals in the USA, Asia Pacific and Australia, and to consult widely on the future development of the Pilates industry both nationally and internationally. She is an invited presenter on the global online sensation Pilates Anytime and has presented many times for the international industry organisation, the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) at their conferences across USA. Sally is an internationally registered NCPT (originally a gold certified PMA-CPT.)
After more than fifteen years as CEO of PilatesITC, Sally sold the training centre at the end of 2018. With an eye to post-graduate level education development, Sally still directs Pilates International studio business while working on projects and development of the profession. Sally also takes personal responsibility in overseeing training for a select group of A-listers, rock stars, music theatre performers, dancers, Olympic swimmers and elite athletes, and toured nationally with Cirque du Soleil throughout 2011 as Pilates trainer for the production of Saltimbanco, and again for Totem in 201-2015.
Sally was Pilates expert contributor for the Sunday Telegraph’s body + soul weekly lift out for two years and has produced the first in a series of workout books, ‘Sally Anderson’s Matwork’.
HISTORY
Prior to becoming hooked on the Pilates Method Sally worked in theater both in performance and management roles. In fact it was an ankle injury sustained during a national tour of “Lend Me A Tenor” that propelled Sally to Rael Isacowitz for rehabilitation using the Pilates Method. At that time, there were only two Pilates teachers to be found in Australia, and in a brilliant stroke of fate, Sally started sessions with Rael. These sessions were like nothing
Sally had experienced before and she was quickly addicted to the punishing regime that Rael put his clients through in a tiny but very efficient studio on the campus of MacDonald College in Sydney, where he was Dean of Dance. Sally has never stopped doing Pilates since, and is 150% certain that without it, her well used back and joints would not be anywhere near as functioning as they are.
Over the years Sally has produced theatre both in Australia and extensively in Asia, which is still a passion and a pursuit.
